I just finished watching the first night of the Republican Convention. I flipped back and forth between ABC and PBS coverage. Early in the evening, before the major networks joined in the coverage, a national party co-chair from Ohio accidently referred to the presumptive vice-presidential nominee as "Sarah Pawlenty" instead of "Sarah Palin". Obviously, the speaker had Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty on her mind, a simple mistake given that the Convention is being held in Minnesota.
A simple mistake? A slip of the tongue? Certainly. However, both the local ABC and PBS affiliate covered the remark in their coverage after the Convention concluded for the evening. ABC replayed the remark. Rich Samuels of the local PBS station discussed it extensively. I did not get a chance to watch the local NBC or CBS affiliates, so I don't know if they covered this sizzlin' hot story. I suppose this is what passes for coverage of Republicans.
I noticed Fred Thompson clearing his throat during his speech. I will wait for the frog-in-his-throat headlines in tomorrow's newspapers.
