Last night, shortly after 8:00 p.m., I was listening to the ABC radio news. They reported the national rise in the rate of unemployment, as did many news outlets. What was odd about this news report is that it compared to number of new people becoming unemployed to the population of . . . Alaska! Never have I heard Alaska’s population being used in this way. I wonder if this is the beginning of a new trend. Compare every negative statistic to the population of Alaska. This either A) shows the size of Alaska to be so insignificant that its Governor should not be considered prepared for higher office, or B) associates Alaska with a variety of negative stories that it has little to do with.
Oh, the wily ways of the fourth estate.
